Profile

Symon Nyondo is a Public and Community Health lecturer in the Department of Public and Environmental Health Sciences – School of Science and Technology at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences where he teaches Communicable and Noncommunicable Disease Control, Global Health, Nutrition and Research Project. He is an experienced public health expert with over ten years working in the field. Symon worked as Dean of Clinical Sciences at Malawi College of Health Sciences from 2021 to 2024. He also worked as Head of Clinical Medicine Department at Malawi College of Health Sciences from 2014 to 2017. Symon was twice Field Team Supervisor during the 2014 and 2017 Malawi Malaria Indicator Surveys for the Ministry of Health – National Malaria Control Program (NMCP). He is a member of the National Technical Working Group for malaria case management at NMCP from 2014 to date.

Symon was a team leader during data collection exercise organized by the Ministry of Health, aimed at evaluating implementation and uptake of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine among standard/grade 4 girls aged between 9–13 years in two pilot districts of Zomba urban and Rumphi rural in 2014. He worked as Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer for USAID funded project on leveraging local capacity to strengthen health service delivery from 2021 to 2024. Symon was involved in the Ministry of Health quarterly outreach training, supportive supervision and mentorship of healthcare workers on malaria data quality and case management in health facilities across Malawi from 2016 to 2021. He has vast experience in teaching, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning roles, project management, healthcare evaluation, grant application writing, research designing, quantitative and qualitative data analysis and data collection tool development.

Malawi College of Health Sciences–Human Resource for Health Project, 2021 to 2024

Malawi College of Health Sciences–Human Resource for Health (MCHS-HRH) project aimed to improve the availability of skilled health professionals working in primary and secondary healthcare settings, with a goal to contribute towards strengthening quality health service delivery; thus, contributing towards the reduction in maternal and neonatal deaths in Malawi. This project was funded by USAID/Malawi.

Malawi College of Health Sciences–Afikepo Nutrition Project, 2020 to 2022

Malawi College of Health Sciences (MCHS) with support from Afikepo Nutrition Project funded by European Union aimed to introduce Bachelor of Science degree programs in Public Health, Community Health Nursing and Clinical Medicine with human nutrition integration. The project supported MCHS in conducting training needs assessment and the development of Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine curriculum.
